A Note from the Owners of Hounds on Hazel
Hi there—welcome. We’re so glad you’re here.
Hounds on Hazel is more than just a place to stay—it’s our family’s favorite escape. It’s where life slows down, the dogs are always included, and some of our best memories have been made (usually with sandy feet and a sleepy pup nearby).
Mornings here start simply: coffee on the porch, quiet moments before the day begins, or a walk with the dogs down Monroe to catch a glimpse of the lake. Sometimes we head into town for coffee along the river; other times, we stay in and enjoy the peaceful stillness of the neighborhood.
Inside, the house has its own rhythm—kids and grown-ups alike tend to find their way downstairs for ping pong and air hockey, while others gather in the front room for puzzles, board games, and easy conversation. It’s the kind of place where laughter comes naturally and family time happens without trying.
Evenings are our favorite. Dinner outside when the weather is right, followed by s’mores and stories around the fire pit, with everyone lingering just a little longer than planned. And if you time it right, the short walk to the lake for sunset is always worth it.
Most of all, Hounds on Hazel was designed with dog-loving families in mind. Your pups are part of the family here, too—and we think you’ll feel that the moment you walk through the door.
We hope your family—two-legged and four-legged—makes memories here that last long after your stay.

Hounds on Hazel is the kind of place where vacations feel easy from the moment you arrive—where mornings start slow with coffee on the porch, days drift between beach walks and downtown wandering, and evenings end around the firepit with tired, happy pups at your feet. Designed with families (and their dogs) in mind, this spacious South Haven retreat comfortably sleeps up to 14 and offers room for everyone to spread out and settle in. From the fully equipped kitchen and cozy living spaces to the in-home theater and game room packed with ping pong, air hockey, and more, every corner of the home invites connection, laughter, and a little friendly competition.
What truly sets Hounds on Hazel apart is how unapologetically dog-friendly it is. This isn’t a place where pets are “allowed”—they’re part of the experience. With nearby access to the Blue Stairs Beach, Van Buren State Park, and dog-friendly stops like South Haven Brewpub (your free growler included), your four-legged companions get their own version of vacation too. Whether you're here for summer lake days, fall color walks, or a cozy winter escape, this is a home built for memory-making—where families return year after year and traditions quietly take root.
