For two decades, I had the privilege of working alongside my mother, Gwen DeBruyn, at Bayberry Cottage—a journey that shaped me as a designer and entrepreneur. Gwen wasn't just my mother; she was my mentor, confidante, and inspiration. Together, we created a niche in vacation home design, infusing lakeside retreats with vibrant patterns and hues to ignite a sense of joy. And had a lot of fun doing it!

Our philosophy was simple yet profound: Lake Michigan homes should embody relaxation, vibrancy, and comfort. Whether it was a primary residence, a second home, or the floor of our retail space, our signature style graced each project, earning recognition in publications like Cottage Living, Coastal Living, Michigan Blue, and Inspired Living.

However, my trajectory evolved as I delved deeper into the Vacation Rental Industry. Through hands-on experience, industry conferences, relentless learning, and advisory roles, I ascended to the helm as the CEO of one of Southwest Michigan's premier Vacation Rental Management companies. Now, I stand at the intersection of my two passions, ready to orchestrate unforgettable experiences.

In this dynamic landscape, I've learned that exceptional vacation rentals transcend mere location—they captivate with awe-inspiring design, intuitive layouts, and unparalleled amenities. By mastering the art of guest delight, we transform luxury-seekers into loyal advocates who eagerly return, spreading the word far and wide.

As the industry undergoes a transformative shift, fueled by discerning travelers craving bespoke experiences, the key to standing out lies in prioritizing guest satisfaction. It's not just about accommodation; it's about curating moments that linger in memory—a sentiment echoed in glowing reviews and enduring referrals.

Amidst the noise of an oversaturated market, those who prioritize guest experience will emerge as beacons of excellence. So, let's invite guests to savor "The Good Life" with us, where every stay transcends expectation, ensuring lasting memories and lucrative returns for our partners.

Do we really need our home to be picture perfect, and have nothing is out of place so it creates an atmosphere that it evokes a positive emotional response and attachment from our renters?

“In 2019…the Johns Hopkins University School of Medicine’s Brain Science Institute...shown the ability of interior design elements to evoke a positive or negative emotional response in people. These findings open the door to design spaces that consciously manipulate decorative elements with the goal of encouraging creativity, peace, and happiness.”

These positive emotional responses and attachment from the renters provide higher review ratings and more repeating guests. Higher Review Ratings create higher marketability and elicit more views on AirBnB, VRBO and Google Vacation Rental, which ultimately converts into higher and more successful reservation rates - all of which generates more income that will offset the costs of ownership even further, and create a more rewarding experience for the Homeowner, and the Guest.
